The most important thing when losing weight is to of course eat sensibly, but along with this you should have a plan or exercise routine to boost your weight loss plan, exercise is the best thing for you when you are losing weight and it doesn't matter how good the diet claims to be it is no good if you are not getting enough exercise throughout the day. Finding an exercise routine that you enjoy doing is the key to being successful otherwise you will just get bored and not stick to it.
Food journaling
Keeping a written account of everything that you eat is essential and helps you to develop a pattern that shows the days you have been successful and what you ate on those days compared to days you weren't so successful and are able to compare the two. This will lead to knowing what foods are the best to include in your diet and what foods you should cut down on or avoid.
Be realistic
Don't get carried away and lose track of what it is that you wish to achieve through your weight loss plan. Remember that the whole point is to eat healthy to get fit and healthy; don't be fooled into going down the road of wanting or needing to become thin. Thin and fit are too different things and becoming too thin can cause severe health problems.
Cut out pointless eating

When starting out on your diet get support from as many friends and family members as you possibly can. Having support and letting them know you are trying to lose a few pounds can save a lot of trouble and they are there to support you by not putting out foods that will tempt you when you visit them. If you have someone you can talk too during the moments you feel like giving in they can be there to support you and encourage you and get you through these times.
